(Here is some quick information on bringing wellness to your congregation, just to get you started. Please see other sections of this website for more in-depth information.) Your faith community can become a place that enhances the health of congregants and anyone who takes part in your community events or programs. It's easy to build in healthy choices around eating and physical activity by enacting policies and practices and making the most of your building and grounds. A good place to start is by learning what the current strengths and weaknesses are in your food and built environment. This site offers a free assessment tool, called the Congregational Health Index or "CHI," that can help you do just that. The CHI also takes you through a process to plan how to improve your environment to make healthy eating and physical activity choices the simple choices for everyone on your congregational campus. Download the CHI in English or in Spanish, or use the online form to start your survey. Your faith community can also sign a Congregational Wellness Pledge to make a formal commitment to wellness. When you are ready to take action, see a variety of sample policies and health promotion tips on food and physical activity or learn how to advocate for healthy environments for the wider community, especially the most vulnerable among us. Today is a great day to begin your congregation's journey to a healthier body and spirit for all! |
